A Star Wars Wedding

Bride and groom night shot

the letter SSo when a friend says, I’m having a Star Wars wedding theme, what is the first thing that jumps to mind? Stormtroopers? Yeah, it did for me too.  Meet Gemma and Stephen. Star Wars crazy (perhaps Gemma more so) and crazy in love. All the good kinds of crazy in my opinion. I’ve known about all the little details of this wedding for a long while as Gemma spent years planning their day and her attention to detail has been second to none.

Gemma took inspiration from the wedding of Anakin and Padme. She found a dress made with the lace she loved and then her very clever Mum completely redesigned it so it truly is one of a kind. To complement the dress, Gemma commissioned Rebecca at Vintage Fascinators to design a headpiece that included the Jedi Order logo made with pearls. A colour scheme of gold and steel grey, planet shaped orbs of gypsophila, Lego figures in buttonholes from Emma at Floral Exuberance and a bouquet that blew me away. Gemma lovingly collected brooches and special pins to create her very own brooch bouquet. She included sentimental items like her Grandfather’s pocket watch and brooches handed down from family members. Uh and Steve… uhm, well.. naturally he was involved in most of these things too.

So on the 18th May 2013 they started the day with a special message from David Prowse (Darth Vader) and with that there really was nothing left for them to do but to enjoy every minute of their special day held at Hawkesyard Hall. Surrounded by loved ones they said their I Do’s, felt the full force (see what I did there) of glitter laced confetti and enjoyed some very special moments together. The weather was perfect, the food excellent, the speeches had us giggling and crying and the bride showed everyone exactly how Gangnam Style is done properly! Oh and what would a Star Wars wedding be without a force push to end it?

It was an honour to photograph their day as it happened and I would like to wish Gemma and Steve all the very best for a happy life together. Many thanks to Paul Smith who helped me capture all this magic!
